Cornwall

Right I'm gonna write a big post about all the stuff I can remember doin in Cornwall over the last week, a diary for Rob and any others who wanted to know wot we all got up to

Friday:
Got picked up from my door by Sandy 'P' (Sandeep) at about 11am and got the others from the front of the union and so began the loooong journey to Cornwall.
Met Joe in a service station somewhere and he took over the driving, arrived in a car park (a.k.a. the motorway into Cornwall) where we made friends with a car full of drunken lads...Rachel decided it wud b a good idea to throw water over one of them as he ran to go for a piss on the side of the road, the crazy bint!
Went to the tescos in Penzance to stock up on the essentials (beer!) and headed towards Sennen Cove, it was about 11pm or something by the time we got close to the campsite, it was misty as fook and it took us a bit of doublebacking an stuff till we found the place. Pitched the tents, drank a beer or two and headed to bed.

Saturday:
Woke up and it was rather misty still, bit chilly on the willy. Went to Tescos in Penzance again to get food for the week and then we took Sandy 'P's kite on the beach since there was plenty of wind!
After a few hours we sat about on the beach and Sandy 'P' and Pete decided to dig a hole using the frizbees, James decided it would be a good idea to put his leg in said hole...it wasn't!...We all began to shovel the sand back into the hole around his leg and stamp it down, he couldn't get his leg out and the tide was creeping in slowly!!
James began to get a bit worried at this point and started to hurriedly scoop the sand out by hand...the tide edged closer still!...by now we were all wetting ourselves with laughter, Pete and Sandy took pity and helped get rid of some of the sand as I stood there laughing my rocks off...it was too late! the tide came in and filled drenched James' legs, by now i was crying with laughter and Tom had fallen over he was laughing so much, after another attack by the tide James finally got out of the hole, oh lordy it was funny!
Walked down the beach into Sennen to the pub in the evening, sat about havin a few bevvies then walked back along the beach in the pitch dark, it was...interesting!
Not everyone had a torch and the group kind of scattered, so it was a bit precarious, couldn't see how close the tide had come in and there was rockpools and stuff dotted about so a few of us got a bit wet!...managed to cut my hand open on a rock too, didnt realise I'd done it 'till my fingers started to stick together as we got closer to the campsite then shone a torch onto my hand and realised it was covered in blood!

Sunday:
First day off climbing and the weather had perked up a bit, slightly windy but the sun was blazing.
Went to a crag a few minutes down the coast, had some nice climbs, seconded Laura up a route and started getting a lil bit burnt (I knew I should have got sun tan lotion!)
Caught my finger on the rope when I was abseiling down the cliff face got a nice bit of skin tearing on my middle finger...my left hand wasn't having a good day!, ho hum!
In the night James met some 14yr olds and being a damned youth worker he befriended them, then they wouldn't leave us alone for the rest of the night!
Me, Pete and Laura went for a walk down the lane to get away from them, on the way back Joe was driving down to pick Dan and Ruth up from the train station so we went along for the ride. Got back and the kids had buggered off, went to bed.

Monday:
Today we went to a pretty crappy climbing spot, not only that, but it was the most awkward place to get to!
Shorts were definately not a good idea on this day, walking thru thcikets bushes down a slippy hill towards a cliff face.
Got burnt a little more today too...did a few climbs, Tom set up a nice top rope which got named 'The Puddle of Doom!' because there was a nice big pool of water at the bottom of it which I threatened to try to lower people into when I was belaying them
On the way back up from the crag Me, Tom, Sandeep and Joe decided to try a different route to the top to avoid them pesky thickets...it seemed like a good idea at the time but it turned out to be worse than the original route....thorns and nettles in abundance! I actually had some trousers in my bag but still hadnt put them on, so got a good pasting from the pesky plants!
Got back and I went to watch the sun set down on the beach, it was kewl, then I went for a stroll along the coastla path and climbed up the cliff, ended up getting a bit lost on the way back 'cause I took a weird route back to the tents that took me along some weird paths and into what looked like a cul-de-sak....either way i was gone about an hour and a half wandering around fields, was good!
Drank some beers with the crew then headed to bed.

Tuesday:
A day off from climbing, Joe went off to visit his parents and some of us went into Penzance to go sea fishing to catch mackerel (reputed for being stupidly easy to catch!)
While we waited for some of the others to turn up I went and got myself an ice cream, the woman tossed it up and it was all wonky n stuff an she had put her thumb thru the cone so i got it for nowt!...1.30 saving, go me!
Got on the boat and me and Pete noticed some lil lad who was clearly shittin himself at the prospect of goin out to sea, oh how we did laugh at him!
Conincidentally it was only me and Pete who managed to catch ZERO fish!...not fair!...even James the veggie caught two!!
It didn't really matter though because the skipper let us take a load for out BBQ anyway On the way back to port the blasted seagulls started hovering about, most of tehm buggered off after a bit but one of them was flyin really low and close to the boat so I gotta fish and hand fed the seagull! ...Of course this opened the flood gates and all the others came back then, the lil buggers!
Bought 4 cheapo disposable BBQs from PoundStretcher (why?!) and went back to tescos to get some extra stuff to plonk on the BBQs then went back to the campsite.
Me, Pete, James and Sandy 'P' gutted the fish then we headed down to the beach...This is why you don't buy disposable BBQs that cost 1.50 each, they had sod all charcoal in them and only lasted about half hour! Still we managed to cook a fair few things and watched the sun go down over the sea then lit a fire and sat about drinkin for a bit.

Wednesday:
Went to a crag on the south coast (i think), had some really good spots for climbing. DID MY FIRST LEAD!!
There was a top rope set up on one of the faces which would prove to b a right bastard of a climb, depending on how you approached it, the left side was piss easy but the right hand side was solid!
Of course I tried the right hand side, had a bit of an over hang, the worst thing about it though was this weird dry green stuff all over the rock, as soon as you grabbed onto something or the rope moved you'd get caked in this stuff!
I got halfway up, scratched both me knees to bits in the process, there was sod all to hold onto up there so I just gave up...Tom manged to get up it after 3 or 4 attempts, nobody else bothered trying that route though hehe.
Can't remember what we did in the nigth but it probably involved drinking beer!

Thursday:
Another day of from climbing...
A load of us walked down the coast a few miles to Lands End, then walked back to our beach an played in the sea fora bit, it was bloody FREEZING!...My meat an 2 veg almost dissappeared into my body! Layed on the warm rocks to try an get warm, just sat about on the beach most of the day chillin.
Walked down to Sennen again to the pub and had a meal with Dan, Ruth, Laura, Sandeep, Rachel, Tom and Cathy. Took a bit more of a sensible route along the coastal path back to our beach on the way back. Met the others on the beach as they were cookin the remainder of the mackerel on a fire, sat about lookin at the stars an stuff then went back to the tents and slept.

Friday:
Went back to the first place we climbed today. Did another lead and a scary second with Tom. It was a bloody crazy route, had to climb down into this crack to get a pice of gear Tom had laid in it, it was wedged in because he'd took a few falls on it, it was pretty hairy to say the least! Seconded Laura up a climb, that was a bit of a dodgy climb too!
Went to St Ives on a night out, was ok, had live bands in all the bars we went to and in the "club" we went to...the clib was well funny, it was tiny for a start but they frisked us all and searched bags as we went in...a bit overkill if you ask me!
Got hammered, did some silly dancing and fell asleep on the minibus back

Saturday:
Had to get up early, which sucked major arse!
Left the campsite at about 11am and so began the looong drive back to Leics!
Got in another traffic jam
Took a de-tour to Taunton to drop Joe off at his new house, was gettin cooked alive by the sun!
Got back into Leics late...after 8.30pm I rekon, decided we would all meet up at the festival thingy that was happening at Bede Park, it was closed by the time we all made it over there after unpacking etc. so we sat on a bench like pikeys drinkin booze, walked Laura back to her place an sat on me arse listening to Guns n Roses while she packed stuff up to go home for the month. Walked back to mine with a quick stop off at Mario's for some chips n cheese

And that's it!

Peace
